Group email: History, 20th Century group
When: Monthly on Tuesdays 2:00 pm-4:00 pm
Every second Tuesday in the month
Venue: West Park United Reformed Church

Our group has 22 members but there is a hardcore of 10 – 12 who attend the meetings. We are open to new members. We meet every second Tuesday of the month between September and June at West Park United Reformed Church in the centre of town (next to Hotel Du Vin); meetings are between 2pm – 4pm.

A different topic is examined each month; sometimes it’s British history e.g. The Trade Union Movement in the Twentieth Century, The Womens’ Suffragette Movement and sometimes it’s world history e.g. The Indian Partition, The Paris Peace Conference, Apartheid. The format of our meetings is one of the following;

  • a member gives a c.20 minute talk on the subject (which has been researched in advance by all the members) followed by Q&A and group discussion
  • everyone researches the subject prior to the meeting and we then have a group discussion
  • a talk given by external speakers followed by Q&A and group discussion.
